 We are...The Court of Honor

Our mission since 1961 has been to provide our community with a Memorial Day Service and a Veterans Day Service every year. We also act as a repository for the burial flags of Montgomery County, Iowa veterans. Veterans’ families may dedicate their deceased veterans flag to the Court of Honor for safe keeping. The family retains ownership of the flag. The Court of Honor preserves and stores the flags and on Memorial Day the Court of Honor with the help of hundreds of community volunteers flys them all around Evergreen Cemetery here in Red Oak, Iowa. The Court of Honor currently flys all 1350+ veterans burial flags on Memorial Day. Starting at 6:30 AM Memorial Day the Court of Honor hauls the flags and poles to Evergreen Cemetery and the community meets us there and helps us put them up. At 10:45 AM we hold a service at the cemetery stage. We have a military fly over, a military speaker, a band concert, and we have a dedication service for all the flags we have received since last year. The families of the newly dedicated flags are recognized and honored. At 4:00 PM the community gathers again at the cemetery and helps the Court of Honor take down all the flags and return them to storage.

The site of those 1350 and growing full size burial flags flying in the breeze will bring tears to the eyes of any patriotic American.

Please join us on Memorial Day and Veterans Day and help us honor our veterans past and present. It will fill your heart with pride and joy. You will be glad you came.

THE COURT OF HONOR THANKS ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED US. WE COULD NOT ACCOMPLISH OUR VITAL MISSION WITHOUT YOU
